Dolores’ biography
Dolores Byrne was appointed Managing Director Innovation in April 2007 with responsibility for strategic business development and driving QinetiQ’s innovation strategy in UK public sector. She also manages the QinetiQ Innovation Initiative (QII).
During her career with QinetiQ and its predecessor organisations, Dolores has held a number of technical and managerial positions as the organisation progressed from being part of the government to its transition in 2001 to the private sector. Following privatisation, Dolores was appointed Managing Director Public Sector with responsibility for leading the growth of QinetiQ’s business with national security and civil customers. In 2005, Dolores assumed responsibility for repositioning QinetiQ more broadly as a key player in innovation.
Dolores graduated in Physics from Queen’s University Belfast and also holds an MBA from Southampton University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) and has served as Vice President of IOP. She is a member of the board of Association of Independent Research and Technology Organisations (AIRTO) and of the Science, Engineering and Technology Council of South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).
Dolores was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 New Year's Honours List.
