Frank’s biography
Frank Rozelaar was appointed QinetiQ's UK Technical Director in 2004. He has built a team of Technical Directors in QinetiQ’s divisions, enhanced the profile of the QinetiQ Fellows event, initiated QinetiQ’s university partnering, and nurtured Andrew Middleton’s quantification of the military advantage nations obtain from defence research investment. He previously led QinetiQ’s entry into products founded on defence sensors and electronics capability and has more recently initiated a network, and strengthening of QinetiQ’s engineering capability, enhancing QinetiQ’s ability to deliver technology solutions and products.
Frank has worked in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) throughout his career, predominantly in research and development, and joined QinetiQ in 2001 from the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency. He pioneered the system application of thermal imaging and digital radar technology. He was at the forefront of the transition from research establishments towards commercial organisation and in 1994 he directed over 300 technologists in Surveillance Systems Department. In 1999, he planned the creation of the QinetiQ’s Sensors and Electronics Sector and as Technical and Strategy Director he defined the route to commercialisation, widening the range of research customers, creating products, initiated entry into the medical sector with sensing devices and as a non-executive director of pSiMedica, a drug delivery spinout from QinetiQ.
Frank has a first class honours degree from the University of Birmingham and was awarded the prize for best academic performance in Industrial Engineering. He is on the board of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations and also represents QinetiQ on Eurotech and the CBI Technology and Innovation Committee, thorough which he initiated the joint CBI QinetiQ innovation programme.
