Our image-processing techniques originally helped missiles track their targets. Now they're used in our new vision-based traffic monitoring and management systems. Our self-contained image capture/processing devices are far less disruptive to install and maintain - and cost less - than traditional in-road sensors. They use existing cameras and other hardware wherever possible, so they increase the economy of scale that comes from multiple use of resources
State-of-the-art technology
The technology is sensitive and accurate enough to identify any vehicle size - down to a bicycle in poor weather and low light.
On all highways our digital cameras monitor traffic - from high speed to stationary... across multiple lanes. Special algorithms then process the data to identify, measure and count vehicles, in all weather or light conditions.
The applications for this breed of vision-based systems include:
- detecting and monitoring traffic at signalled junctions
- counting and identifying vehicle class
- monitoring and controlling speed, headway and lane occupancy
- measuring queues on motorways.
