Approved Conditions

Most of the conditions that we treat are among those that are approved by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS)

Air or Gas Embolism

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning (including carbon monoxide poisoning complicated by cyanide poisoning)

Clostridal Myositis and Myonecrosis (Gas Gangrene)

Crush Injury, Compartment Syndrome, and other Acute Traumatic Ischaemias

Decompression Illness

Enhancement of Healing in Selected Problem Wounds [case study]

Exceptional Blood Loss (Anaemia)

Intracranial Abscess

Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections

Osteomyelitis (Refractory)

Delayed Radiation Injury (Soft Tissue and Bony Necrosis) [case study]

Skin Grafts & Flaps (Compromised)

Thermal Burns

Although most of our patients have conditions that fall within these UHMS approved indications, we also treat conditions recommended by the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM). A very small number of our patients have reported beneficial responses in a range of other conditions as diverse as keratoconus, pneumatosis coli, soft tissue injuries and central retinal vessel occlusion. Our principal criterion for acceptance is reasonable evidence of benefit but there must also be a plausible mechanism by which the hyperbaric oxygen is expected to work.
