What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is the delivery of oxygen at greater than atmospheric pressure. This has been used for many years to treat decompression illness (the bends). It is now recognised as a very successful therapy for many other conditions particularly when used in conjunction with other medical and surgical interventions.

Our Hyperbaric Medicine Unit, based at Royal Hospital Haslar, is equipped to treat all problems that are helped by hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. We accept patients for planned treatments in normal working hours but take emergency cases at any time of day or night. We are registered with the Healthcare Commission (Service number 0000038250).
