Railway Condition Monitoring |
 |
|
|
We have built up a world class condition monitoring capability in aerospace and defence, which is now available to the rail industry.
Railway demand - for both passenger and freight traffic - is set to increase dramatically over the coming years. Meeting that demand depends on fully efficient asset management... consistently using resources cost-effectively. And efficient asset management in turn depends on a comprehensive and integrated knowledge of the assets' condition.
We monitor vehicle condition including wheel compliance, axle box condition, vibration and acoustic compliance and engine and gearbox characteristics.
And because reliable services and efficient operations depend critically on a safe and well-maintained infrastructure, we specialise in condition monitoring across permanent way characteristics such as:
- rail crack propagation
- ballast condition
- point machine performance
- civil structures.
Behind all our systems development sit the technological resources and facilities of Europe's largest research and development establishment. And our work is underpinned by demonstrable quality and operational standards such as ISO 9000, Investors in People, and Link UP accreditation. |

Condition monitoring technology We cover all aspects of condition monitoring technology, including:
- laser radar (LIDAR)
- non-destructive evaluation (NDE)
- neural networks
- pattern recognition
- heuristic decision support
- predictive maintenance
Sensor design We have vast experience in sensor system design, across fibre optics, micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS), LIDAR, vibro-acoustic radar and telematics-enabled global positioning systems.
Data collection, logging and processing Our extensive capabilities and expertise in data collection and logging systems cover finite element analysis, Bayesian fusion, telematics and neural networks.
Predictive analysis As a major aerospace technology provider we have developed world class capabilities in many predictive analysis tools and techniques. These include failure criteria, pattern recognition, advanced dynamic analysis of mechanical systems (ADAMS), the damaged bridge assessment tool (DBAT) and the transport reliability assessment and calculation system (TRACS).
Management information software We have developed heuristic software systems such as LAMP (LifeCycle Asset Management) to provide first-class management information support.
Asset management Railway demand - for both passenger and freight traffic - is set to increase dramatically over the coming years. Meeting that demand depends on fully efficient asset management... consistently using resources cost-effectively. And efficient asset management in turn depends on a comprehensive and integrated knowledge of the condition of the assets.
We can assist with all areas of asset management, including predictive maintenance, reliability-centred maintenance, through-life costing, systems modelling, and design evaluation and enhancement. |
