Noise test facility

Providing solutions to noise problems for nearly 40 years, we have specialised in the subject of aeroengine exhaust noise. Today the issue of reducing aircraft exhaust noise is a continuing problem for the aviation industry. Tightening regulations and reducing aircraft traffic quotas is increasing the need for continued research and development.

noise test facility The Noise Test Facility (NTF) is one of the world's largest anechoic chambers specifically designed for aero-engine exhaust noise research, namely jet and turbine testing.

We provide the complete solution from test schedule planning to interpretation of results and recommendations for problem resolution. Comprehensive acoustic and aerodynamic measurements are interfaced with dedicated data processing software for processing and manipulation.

Enhancements made recently to the NTF allows models of the largest aero-engines to be tested at 10% linear scale. The main anechoic chamber has a maximum length of 26m, a similar width and a height of 14m. This allows noise measurements to be made at large distances which is a prerequisite for accurate noise measurements. It is lined throughout with a total of 21,000 bonded glass-fibre wedges, which are 900mm high. These render the chamber anechoic down to a cut-off frequency of 90Hz.
