The 5 metre wind tunnel facility is designated as low speed, high-Reynolds number and pressurised. It is designed to optimise high lift systems for improved takeoff and landing performance and has underpinned key developments in aircraft design over many years.
In 2004, Boeing and QinetiQ concluded a 10 year agreement that enables Boeing to test all its current and future designs in the Farnborough based 5 metre low-speed wind-tunnel, and validate low-speed aerodynamic performance.
This facility is also available to any other aircraft manufacturer for similar testing purposes. |
