Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) Synthetic Environment

QinetiQ has created the Ground Based Air Defence Synthetic Environment (GBAD SE). Operational since 2004, this simulates future GBAD capability and creates an integrated joint GBAD environment to assess and evaluate contractor proposed C4I systems.

Rapid prototyping environment
QinetiQ has developed a rapid prototyping environment to improve the decision support systems for major Airborne Early Warning (AEW) platforms. This has enabled the rapid injection of technology to established mission system designs to improve the ability to detect and track targets whilst reducing the operator workload. By using a synthetic test environment emerging technologies can be evaluated for ease of insertion, improved functionality and reduced operator workload, significantly reducing the risks before final integration into a mission system. QinetiQ is working closely with other partners on this programme.

Concept Evaluation Environment (CEE)
In the wider defence environment QinetiQ has developed an integrated airspace defence assessment tool, which has the capacity to examine differing concepts, their associated capability gaps and the possible technology fixes to those gaps; this tool is known as the Concept Evaluation Environment (CEE).

It works within a total system context in an integrated Synthetic Environment (SE) embracing the land, sea and air domains. Through its use of the quest network, CEE will use SE created for different projects in QinetiQ’s varied facilities, drawing them together to understand interactions between platforms, sensors and weapons in a networked environment.
