Enabling Joint and Coalition Interoperability |
 |
|
|
A key aspect of NEC is to enable truly Joint working and close cooperation between coalition partners to achieve system and process interoperability.
QinetiQ routinely engages with its military customers to ensure that NEC systems deliver what they want in a manner which they can understand.
In Joint and Coalition work the essential aim is to acquire appropriate information and then use the network to make it available to planners and decision makers, by collecting and distributing it in the most effective way, permitting timely sharing amongst those who need it.
To maximise the benefits of information sharing, common standards and processes are needed, which have to be supported by open system architectures, thus permitting information to flow freely and securely between users. Networked services need to be reconfigurable to suit changing information needs and the information solutions need to be defined by the end user in close consultation with system designers. |

QinetiQ has provided the core network engineering services to support CWID for the last 8 years. The QinetiQ engineers design, build and accredit a complex multi-level security infrastructure with assured transfer of information from Unclassified through Coalition Secret to UK Eyes Only domains. The network also supports multiple information domains, supporting users at different command levels. The service is based upon the QinetiQ’s WADI network infrastructure product and Sybard:Suite security products set.
CWID is instrumental in de-risking national and international interoperability, and was recognised by a SMART Acquisition award to a Joint MoD/QinetiQ from the UK’s Minister for Defence Procurement in 2005. |

The UK’s major national and international interoperability event is the Coalition Warfighter Interoperability Demonstration (CWID). CWID is a US led exercise which allows government and industry partners to come together in a co-operative atmosphere to create a next generation NEC environment. The participants bring legacy, developmental and innovative solutions for communications systems, network infrastructure components, information infrastructure and military applications |
