LAST® Armour
LAST® Armour is a unique, rapidly-deployable armour system for aircraft and ground vehicles.
LAST ® Armour is a lightweight, field installable and combat proven appliqué armour system for both ground vehicles and aircraft. A range of solutions are available, tailored to defeat specific threats, which range from small arms fire to heavy machine gun AP rounds, automatic cannon fire (30mm) and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The available armour systems are applicable to both soft-skinned and armoured platforms which required upgraded protection.
LAST® Armour is delivered in easy-to-install kits which can be sent forward for installation to deployed vehicles or aircraft. Affixed using a proprietary, high strength VELCRO® fastening system, LAST® armour can be installed in the field, by the crew, without the need for cutting, welding, drilling or other specialised equipment. Using the unique fastening system, which is many times stronger than conventional VELCRO®, the modular armour kits can be readily moved between platforms and can typically be transferred within one hour. The modular nature of the LAST® Armour system also allows straightforward repair of battle damage.
The complete aircraft armour system can be transferred from one aircraft to another within one hour. Further, LAST® Armour kits built for the Lockheed C-130 use the exact same armour parts as kits built for the Lockheed C-141 and McDonnell Douglas C17 as well as various rotary wing aircraft such as the H-60 and Bell 212.
