Rangemaster Remote Control Vehicles

The QinetiQ Rangemaster range of Remote Control Vehicles (RCVs) uses a diesel/electric hybrid drive. This unique feature in craft of this size allows extended periods of operation when running on the integral 10Hp diesel engine (>8 hours) while still retaining the capability to operate quietly in doors without producing fumes or emissions when operating on its batteries (4x55A.Hr Lead Acid).

Rangemaster at the QinetiQ Shoeburyness range The Rangemaster RCVs are extremely rugged, powerful and designed to operate in the harsh conditions found on military test ranges. They can tow a 120Kg trailer and their onboard power generation allows the use of high power transmitters giving extended radio range and video transmissions.

Black Max in a surveillance configuration The basic platform can support a 250Kg payload. Road speed in high gear mode is up to 12Mph or if geared for torque the RCV can climb 40 deg slopes. The vehicle has full time 4x4 drive allowing operations on unstructured ground as well as the capability to traverse rubble strewn areas. If the littoral zone version is specified the chassis can be sealed for operations on beaches and coastal zones where its balloon tyres and very low ground pressure allow high mobility on soft sand and shingle.

Carson vehicle The body work of these vehicles allows decontamination by steam cleaning and pressure washing and all internal services are housed in secondary weatherproof containments. Each Rangemaster can be configured to meet customer requirements, we have fitted highly dextrous manipulators arms to these for EOD operations, Fire fighting equipment and sensor packs for CBRN remote monitoring. The chassis will support the recoil from ballistic disruptors and weapons systems.
