Our expertise in Military Stealth is the primary UK focus for all aspects of radar signature control. This includes the prediction, measurement and control of radar cross sections, and the development of radar absorbing materials and frequency-selective materials. This world-class team offer expert consultancy, tools and facilities to MOD and the wider commercial markets:

  • Modelling and prediction of radar cross sections
  • Design of aircraft and assessment of existing designs
  • Advanced radar cross section prediction software
  • Measurement of radar cross sections in a dedicated compact range
  • Design and characterisation of radar absorbing materials


We have a large secure computer facility for the efficient running of these modelling and prediction codes. The group also has specialised software for modelling periodic structures such as phased arrays, and is able to carry out antenna modelling. It is also possible to tailor prediction tools to specific application, for example electro-magnetic characterisation of waveguide components or integrated circuits. Stealth aircraft QinetiQ's software tool OSCELLUS, is used for modelling frequencies above 1GHz and is applied to a range of projects from signature characterisation of fighter aircraft and missiles, to the effects of windfarms.
