There is a proliferation of sensor, weapon, and other information exchange networks in the battlespace. Information must always be accurate and timely, but in this increasingly complex environment, information quality must be also assured in order to support:
- Shared situation awareness
- Effective and timely decision-making
- Efficient selection and deployment of capability to support desired effects
At present, concepts for future capability, acquisition decisions, and the deployment of existing assets are largely based on an assessment of the force capability against the family of effects needed for campaign success. Each capability is usually part of a larger capability chain, ie a sequence of capabilities used to deliver an effect.
Consideration needs to be given to each capability in the context of its capability chain. Failure to do this can lead to reduced confidence in the concept definition, and in the acquisition and allocation of the component assets. Effects may be compromised to the point that action results in the wrong effect being delivered. |
