Oilfield Perforators

The humble oilfield perforator is often overlooked when designing a completion -yet its effect on production performance is critical.

The current designs of oilfield perforator haven't changed dramatically in the last 30-40 years - introducing military technology from shaped charges allows a step change increase in efficiency and subsequently production to be achieved.

We worked with Shell and Halliburton on the Penguins project in 2002 and improved perforator performance by up to 21% in downhole conditions with the Dominator charge. The subsequent increased penetration gave operator Shell an estimated NPV of 1.5MUSD.

Following the success of the Dominator perforator, Shell has been quick to engage with us on other perforator technologies . Our team use their extensive modelling skills and technical capability to fire perforators even before a prototype is built and tested.

It is this unique capability along with our knowledge of novel materials that allow us to reduce the cycle time and introduce new designs into the commercial arena.
