Cloaking wind turbines from radar

QinetiQ was awarded a contract by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to design, build and demonstrate the world’s first stealthy turbine. This project was carried out in partnership with Vestas, the market-leading wind turbine manufacturer, by extrapolating the in-depth knowledge of QinetiQ’s world class stealth materials team. The DTI funded the project to help mitigate the interference caused by wind turbines on air traffic control and air defence radars so that planning applications for new wind farms are more easily approved.
