Recognising our Responsibilities:

• Since 2001 our UK operations have earned the Investors in People (IIP) standard
• We invest in our people with UK employees each receiving an average of five days training every year
• In 2008 we received a "Best Practice in Professional Development" award from the Institute of Physics "in recognition of exemplary behaviour in the training and development of the company's employees"
• All our principal sites hold ISO 14001 which helps ensure we minimise the impact of our operations on the environment
• We are also accredited by the National Energy Foundation
• 13 of the sites we operate include Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and nine have Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) status
• Over 150 UK employees volunteer for our Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) schools outreach programmes through the Science and Engineering Ambassador (SEA) Scheme
• Our education-in-the-community initiative "Lab in a Lorry" has benefited over 8,000 school students between the ages of 11 and 14. Further tours are already planned to benefit another 2,000 school children by the end of 2009
Our Technology:

• Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) were invented at QinetiQ's Malvern site in the early 1970s earning the UK more than £100m in licensing revenues from digital watch manufacturers worldwide. New generation, zero-powered LCDs are now in use on the deli counters at Tesco's flagship stores
• We are the world's leading supplier of military robotics. More than 2,800 of our TALON® robots have now been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan principally to locate and remotely disable improvised explosive devices and roadside bombs. On average the robots can be blown-up and repaired more than ten times before they need to be replaced
• We have the only robot hospitals in the world located in Iraq and Afghanistan
• Our latest millimetre radar product, SPO is being used by the US Transportation Security Administration to detect potential threats including weapons and explosives hidden under people's clothes at American railways stations and airports
• Zephyr, solar powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) recently flew for three and a half days - the longest duration unmanned flight to date
• We are working with Intel to develop ultra high-speed transistor technology which could form the basis of next generation computer chips for hand-held devices and super-computers
• Our micro-satellite TopSat, has won awards from Popular Science, the largest circulation science magazine in the US and the Royal Aeronautical Society for its contribution to advances in aerospace. It is the UK's only operational reconnaissance satellite
Our Services:

• We are the engine room behind NASA space programmes under a five-year, $190m contract to provide test and integration services at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland
• We support allied troops in Afghanistan and Iraq with QinetiQ employees working on a wide range of Urgent Operational Requirements to ensure front line troops have the very latest equipment. For example, working with Carson Helicopters we have improved the speed and lift capability of the Sea King helicopter to meet the demands of operations in Afghanistan
• We provide test, evaluation and training support services to the Ministry of Defence at the 18 sites we operate and manage on their behalf. These sites stretch the length and breadth of the UK from Shoeburyness in Essex to Aberporth in Ceredigion
• QinetiQ's secure monitoring service protects the integrity of IT Systems for organisations including Royal Mail, British Airways and a range of government customers
• We are the preferred bidder for the MOD's 25-year, £12bn Defence Training Review programme which will provide state-of-the-art training and accommodation to the UK's armed forces across 1,200 different courses
Our Facilities:

• Our low speed wind tunnel is one of just three in the world and used regularly by Boeing under a 10-year deal
• Our ocean basin at Gosport, Hampshire is the largest in Europe – it’s the size of 16 Olympic swimming pools. Currently scale models of the new British aircraft carriers Queen Elizabeth II and Prince of Wales are undergoing trials in the basin to ensure their stability and handling
• The 1,500m test track at Pendine in Wales, operated by QinetiQ for the Ministry of Defence is the longest in Europe. Recently it was used to test small missile-like probes, that will allow scientific measurements to be taken from the far side of the Moon for the first time
• An access-controlled Computer Forensics Laboratory in Malvern recovers information from a range of electronic and digital equipment in support of investigations by the Police and other authorities
