The Portal
Boeing and QinetiQ have formed an alliance, under a Memorandum of Agreement to jointly build and operate an analysis, modelling, simulation and experimentation facility at QinetiQ in Farnborough. Its purpose is to help customers explore their options and evaluate alternative solutions in a collaborative, real-time, dynamic environment.
The Portal consists of
- A 5,500 square-foot facility capable of operating up to the Secret level of classification. Within the footprint of the facility, there are reconfigurable laboratories to conduct the advanced modelling, simulation and analysis activities.
- Computing and network equipment and advanced computer tools and models to execute a wide-range of distributed experimentation in support of each company’s business objectives.
- A skilled staff to operate the facility with access to a broader set of subject matter experts from both companies to conduct the proposed engineering activities.
- The processes necessary to rapidly conduct the full range of experimentation activities in response to customer needs.
- The ability to participate in the wider capabilities offered by access to the QinetiQ quest network and its various UK MOD networked capabilities; reach through Boeing’s LabNet to over 700 Boeing laboratories in the US and Australia and to various US DOD networked capabilities. The Portal will also have access to the UK JMNIAN network.
Tying the Boeing Laboratory Network, with state-of-the-art MPLS (Multi-protocol Label Switching System) technology, together with the QinetiQ quest network gives customers access to a distributed network that spans three continents. Connecting these two powerful networks gives customers the ability to represent UK-US-AS military interoperability experimentation.
An equally important benefit of the network is that it allows our customers to reach back to the people within Boeing and QinetiQ. There is a breadth and depth of knowledge, expertise, understanding and capabilities within these two companies that can be tapped and used to help solve customer’s problems.
Together, our expertise gives us an understanding of network management in both the virtual and the real world. We know how to both protect and attack the network at multiple levels. We have the ability to emulate study, analyse and improve the networked environments of our warfighters when they are engaged in the battlespace.
