Mission Systems

We develop real-time and fast-time synthetic environments to support assessment studies and system analysis. Our Synthetic Environment (SE) facilities include a Network Enabled Capabilities SE Laboratory.

Our Mission Systems Trainer allows us to put trainee operators in simulated and realistic AEW and data link scenario conditions. The Mission Systems Trainer has been used to prototype HMI requirements for the Sea King Mk 7 ASAC and is currently employed by the Royal Navy as a deployable Sea King Mk 7 ASAC training system.

The Typhoon Sensor Fusion Model has helped improve the design of the Typhoon's onboard fusion processes and has been used to assess the potential of advanced fusion techniques.

The Electronic Reference model has been developed for Typhoon and the Joint Combat Aircraft (JCA) to capture and define all the on- board mission data to be supplied to the user.

The Total System Model, a large-scale Command & Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) modelling toolkit has been employed on a number of assessment studies:

  • JTIDS integration into the Sea Harrier
  • Successor Identification Friend or Foe (IFF)
  • Future Sensor Mix
  • Air target identification
  • Surface to Air Missile (SAM) Weapon Systems
  • Integrated Ground-Based Air Defence (IGBAD) Balance of Investment (BOI)


We have provided expert operational, modelling and simulation support for major equipment procurements including the E-3D, Typhoon, JCA, Sea King Mk7, Sea Harrier, JAS39 Gripen and AEW&C 890 (Sweden).
