Aim The aim of this work package is to assist with, and provide an independent assessment of the International Avionics Working Group (IAWG) modular and incremental safety case approach (termed modular and incremental certification strategy) within the avionics domain. This forms part of a wider strategy to implement a "standardised" approach to safety certification.
Content Under Private Venture funding, the IAWG have undertaken research into a modular and incremental certification strategy for avionics. They have reached a level of maturity with this work that an independent safety audit can add confidence and enable pull through.
QinetiQ Systems Assurance Group and QinetiQ Test and Evaluation Services will lead this work package in order to assist the IAWG. This research package will be split into two aspects. The Systems Assurance Group will provide assistance to the IAWG in producing a safety case strategy, whilst Test and Evaluation Services will undertake an audit of the IAWG approach. ISD will review the IAWG Incremental Certification Strategy from an audit perspective, which will highlight areas of strength and weakness.
Alongside WP1.3.1 Modular Safety Case Policy and Adoption, this work package forms part of a wider strategy to implement a "standardised" approach to safety certification.
Outcome The overall outcome of the work package will be an an independent assessment on the IAWG modular and incremental certification strategy. Progress against the wider strategy to implement a "standardised" approach to safety certification will be reported via the TI MPA website.
