Boscombe Down Airfield Services

Descriptive Overview
This Facility provides an operational airfield and airfield-related services as a Government Aerodrome for the purposes of the Air Navigation Order 2000 for the benefit of Approved Aircraft.

Characteristics of Facility

• Main runway of length 3212 metres with Rotary Hydraulic Arrestor Gear and barriers at each end.
• Secondary runway of length 2109 metres.
• Air traffic control with VHF and UHF Direction Finder, Tactical Air Navigation Beacon and Precision Approach Radar/Instrumented Landing System and communications.
• Emergency services consisting of fire and medical services as required for the relevant crash categorisations.
• One meteorological office.
• One bird scaring unit.

• Equipped with full Instrument Flight Rules capability.
• Operates to the following crash categorisations in accordance with JSP 426:
• CAT 4A: Monday - Thursday 09:00 - 17:30.
• CAT 4A: Friday 09:00 - 16:30.
• CAT 3A: All other times.
