Design Manufacture and Installation

Descriptive Overview
This Facility provides resources for the design, manufacture and installation of the instrumentation and other modifications as specified below to aircraft, aircraft systems and equipment.
The instrumentation and modifications that can be supported are:

• Instrumentation of aircraft under test and evaluation.
• Collection and processing of data that is used as evidence in test and evaluation studies.
• Collection and processing of data that is used as training material for ETPS.
• Modification of QinetiQ's Airfleet to enable them to undertake airborne research projects.
• Modification of QinetiQ's Airfleet to fit them for ETPS flying.
• Extraction and processing of data from Accident Data Recorders (ADRs) to support UK MOD / Customer crash investigations.
• Design, manufacture and assembly of prototype modifications and pods for enhancement of operational capability.

Characteristics of Facility

• Generation of designs, performance of stress analysis and the carrying out of design assurance certification to create modifications to Air Vehicles which meet the agreed customer Statement of Requirement.
• Manufacture of mechanical, electrical and electronic parts/equipments/systems and installation within Air Vehicles as modifications to enable trials, testing and ETPS course flying.
• Maintenance of a Drawing Pack of the QinetiQ designed modifications for each QinetiQ Airfleet aircraft and each UK MOD/Customer owned Air Vehicle modification for the purposes of maintaining configuration control of modifications.
• Development of solutions for real time capture and display of data to support the accelerated conduct of trials, testing and ETPS course flying, through early sight of results.
• Design, development and installation of data acquisition systems to capture trials data from which Air Vehicle performance analysis information can be derived, both for ETPS course purposes and to provide evidence to support Military Aircraft Release (MAR) recommendations.
• Provision of a technical authorship service to produce new, and provide updates to existing, technical operational and maintenance publications to reflect the correct operation and embodiment of new modifications, and the removal of existing modifications to Air Vehicles.
