This Facility checks weapon release from aircraft pylons or carriers and firing tests of guns mounted in stands or aircraft installations.

Characteristics of Facility

The Pit Drop facility provides the following services:

  • Checking of weapon release from aircraft pylons or carriers into a cushioned pit of dimensions 1.19m x 6.86m.
  • Monitoring of ejector release units by instrumentation and high-speed cameras.


The Stop Butt facility is a licensed range providing the following services:

  • Firing tests of guns mounted in stands or on aircraft.
  • Capability to contain ball and target practice ammunition up to and including 30mm calibre.
