cueSim
As training becomes more complex, costs rise rapidly. So to meet the demand for 'reality' simulation we have set up a specialist subsidiary company, cueSim. They offer specialist simulators and can integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components innovatively, creatively and effectively. The result is high fidelity products that are virtually maintenance free, completely flexible and eminently affordable.
Real-time all vehicle simulator software
At the heart of all cueSim simulators is QinetiQ's unique Real Time All Vehicle Simulator (RTAVS) software. With this we can tailor solutions for customers and put them in place quickly and cost-effectively. Complemented by Maxcue and Loadcue - high quality electric motion and control loading systems - cueSim applications cover both military and civil systems.
Combat training simulation
cueSim's new VANguard training simulators integrate with a wide range of existing and legacy PC-based systems. They support complex multi-player collaborative combat training scenarios, The software handles military and civil applications in support of distributed and collaborative air operations training exercises.

Land
Our services and facilities cover:

- development is underway on a new Advanced Land Platform System
(ALPS) synthetic environment, to enhance man-in-the-loop simulations for new-generation armoured fighting vehicles. And we are heavily involved in the UK MoD's new Combined Arms Tactical Trainer. This is the largest of its kind in the world, using the latest simulation technologies from the US and UK.
Air
We are world leaders in providing and using networked simulation in the assessment process. For example, our JOUST Fast-jet air combat analysis:
- creates sophisticated computer generated forces
- formulates real-world scenarios
- provides suspension of disbelief submersion.
Within our collective training research, our three-day composite air operations (COMAO) trainer involves front-line aircrews in large-scale distributed simulation. USAF and RAF combat aircrews recently completed the world's first transatlantic COMAO with the trainer, using real-time long haul wide area network (WAN) links.
Maritime
The affordable technology we develop delivers flexible and transparent simulation. We use human-in-the-loop simulation and state-of-the-art courseware in our web-based trainers.
For example, the new Combined Emulation and Training (CEAT) system augments and improves existing training systems for Merlin helicopter flight crews in the UK Navy. Installed on a laptop and deployable at sea, CEAT can modify the course structure to reflect a student's progress.
Another ground-breaking system - AEW Mission Systems Trainer (MST) - is already in use on PCs at RNAS Culdrose. The next step is to deploy it aboard the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers, so that Sea King Mk7 mission crews can maintain their skills and operational currency. MST links to a datalink terminal and sends 'pocket pictures' to PDAs, so that supervisors can monitor training remotely. |
