QinetiQ displays defence and security innovations at Eurosatory 2012

QinetiQ will be displaying its latest defence and security innovations in survivability, robotics, maritime solutions and sensor technology at Eurosatory 2012 in Paris, France.

Displays will include ground and maritime robotic systems, the latest RPG defeat and gunfire detection systems, vehicle survivability technology, portable power solutions, sensor suites, physical security monitors, asset tracking technology and much more.

A central feature of the QinetiQ display will be the new Combat Identification Marking System which will be on display for the first time.

Specifically in modern conflicts it has become increasingly important to deploy with such an effective system to safely identify friendly assets with distinctive identifying markings that will result in:

QinetiQ, with over 15 years of experience in the development of effective combat identification solutions, has collaborated with CI Systems to offer the dismounted soldier a beacon that can be identified by ALL NATO Thermal Sensors at weapon engagement ranges and all in a device that weighs less than 350 grammes.

This new state of the art self-signalling beacon is based on a propriety new and patent pending technology which generates an IR signal from a chemical reaction disposable unit.

This source lasts for over 1 hour of operation on a single ignition and provides a 360 degree modulated signal.

Additionally POINTER will be on display at the QinetiQ booth. Pointer is QinetiQ smartware that delivers fast, networked cueing whilst minimising casualties. Finding an aggressor is difficult and dangerous; once found, a rapid accurate and coordinated response is required.

Key features of the Combat Identification Marking System include: 

  • 360 degree horizontal, -10 to +80 degrees vertical field of regard
  • STANAG 2129 compliant - able to be observed by ALL NATO thermal sights operating in the MWIR (3-5um) and LWIR (8-12um)
  • 1 hour of operation per disposable heat source
  • Requires only 2 AA Batteries per 15 hours of use

 Key features of POINTER includes 

  • the vital link between distributed Sensors, Commanders and those who deliver Effects.
  • Takes live feeds from any sensor such as Acoustic Gun shot detectors and Laser Range Finders.
  • POINTER then plots these feeds on a battlefield management application in the command centre or vehicle.
  • Automatically networks this information directly to any weapon sight.
