Using distributed fibre sensing to provide value-enhancing information to multiple industries
Distributed fibre sensing is enabling customers to cost effectively monitor their strategic assets and in some cases measure the unmeasurable.
OptaSense® is leading commercial change in multiple industries through the application of distributed fibre sensing (DxS) to gather information from large or complex linear assets. At the heart of its success is the ability to convert existing fibre optic assets into thousands of sensors and then applying advanced signal processing algorithm to disseminate this data in real time.
This dual approach enables customers to leverage an existing asset and receive important and timely information, this in turn enables them to make value enhancing business decisions, whether this is to change a well completions process or dispatch security to prevent theft from an oil pipeline.
OptaSense® delivers value in multiple business markets from the Oil and Gas industry through Defence & Security to Transport and many others. These markets require a truly global business focus and this year has seen OptaSense® open offices in Houston and Calgary as well as delivering projects in new geographies like India and Nigeria to name a few.
Current OptaSense Activities
Oil & Gas Industry
We are looking at two core applications. The first is downhole monitoring with Shell where we are seeking to use the information gathered by the OptaSense® system to improve the production process and reduce overall cost of recovery. The second is to provide security and monitoring to distribution pipeline networks like the BTC (Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan) pipeline in Turkey or the Mangala Development Pipeline in India.
Defence & Security Industry
We are providing a cost effective method of securing high value and complex critical national infrastructure like nuclear power stations and supporting the MoD and DoD with operational solutions.
Transport Industry
We are providing detection of unauthorised personnel on the railways whether this is for theft, graffiti or terrorism and real time condition monitoring of the track asset and rolling stock.
