Introduction Into Service
We support Defence to intelligently and economically manage weapons and munitions from Introduction Into Service (IIS) and across their complete life cycle. We have supported Explosive Materiel Branch (EMB) with the IIS of more than 300 munitions and provided IIS and certification support to almost every guided weapon in the ADF’s inventory.
IIS is a holistic analysis of the complete life cycle of an item of EO, from manufacture to disposal, or ultimately destruction of a given target. As opposed to the NATO Safety & Suitability for Services (S3) methodology, IIS incorporates S3 as part of its process and augments it with operational, logistics, publications, interoperability and engineering design analysis to deliver a total through-life assessment. QinetiQ’s global business and local business allow us to bring a unique level of knowledge to solve IIS issues.
Introduction Into Service Support
Our people are highly experienced in the production of munitions Functional Performance Specifications, Safety Case Reports/Design Assessments and technical publications to support the IIS of EO, munitions and weapons systems. We understand the requirements of Defence and the expectations of working within the scope of an Authorised Engineering Organisation, be it ours or belonging to Defence, and we were the first cAEO appointed to support EMB.
Our people have produced acquisition and sustainment project documentation to support the planning for the IIS of many EO, munitions and weapons systems. Through our understanding of the need, requirement, acquisition, sustainment and disposal life cycle, we are able to provide early advice and input to projects, enabling them to more efficiently achieve successful certification and subsequent IIS.
