QinetiQ to attend Project Controls Expo 2017
On Thursday 16 November, we are attending the Project Controls Expo 2017, the largest international Project Control event, at the Emirates Arsenal Stadium in London.

As well as showcasing our capabilities on the stand, two of our experts will also be speaking at the event: Colin Sandall and Peter Tart are both Senior Consultants at QinetiQ and are speaking on "Economic Value Chains – costing the impact of risk”. Their talk will cover an exploration of the practical application of QinetiQ’s Economic Value Chains approach to quantifying the economic impact of disruptive events. To explain, unmitigated disruptive events have potentially catastrophic effects on businesses. An example is Cybercrime, which is increasing at an alarming rate and frequently makes headlines in the press. Even where the aim of a cyber-attack is not economic, the project delays, cost of recovering capability and loss of reputation from such attacks can cripple organisations.
Many organisations do not understand the full scope and scale of potential recovery costs which makes it difficult to justify decisions relating to investment in cyber defences or improved project controls. Using the recent NHS cyber attack as an example, Colin and Peter will describe how QinetiQ’s Economic Value Chains (EVC) approach can be used to understand and quantify the true scale and nature of potential costs and consequences to projects and businesses from disruption – cyber or otherwise, deliberate or accidental. The presentation will then consider how the cost-benefit (or unintended detriment) of technical, procedural or personnel changes can be assessed.

Colin Sandall is an Operational Analyst with over 25 years’ experience in Defence, with DRA, DERA, Dstl and QinetiQ. Colin’s costing experience includes cost-benefit analysis for the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA), Joint Combat Aircraft, Joint Operational Fuel System, Typhoon, Storm Shadow and the Army Recruiting Partnering Project. For two years, Colin was the lead software engineer for the US Operating and Support Cost Analysis Model (OSCAM) models and delivered OSCAM training courses to the US DoD, US Coastguard and Industry in Washington DC and Southern Maryland. Other experience includes work for the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and the Canadian Coastguard.
Peter Tart is a senior consultant with a proven record of providing excellent decision support. He has 20 years’ experience in operational research and statistical analysis, gained primarily within the defence industry. Peter specialises in benefits analysis, soft-OA techniques and MOD business cases. Peter’s knowledge includes Balance of Investment (BoI) and option assessment methods (including Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis and Data Envelopment Analysis), as well as development of bespoke cost capability trade methods. Peter lead the Operating and Support Cost Analysis Model (OSCAM) development and training team, delivering model enhancements to the US DoD for Ship and Air cost models. He has delivered numerous high quality OSCAM training courses to the US DoD, US Coastguard and Industry in Washington DC and Southern Maryland.
