QinetiQ has been awarded a five year contract by the Australian Department of Defence, to provide engineering services to the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) at their Melbourne facility, which covers a range of design, manufacturing and applied imaging services.
The contract ensures a seamless transition from the incumbent and came into effect on 1 July 2010. It provides DSTO with access to 500 professional engineers, including manufacturing specialists, to support specific tasks where it is not cost-effective to maintain a team at the DSTO site in Melbourne. These engineers include employees from Brisbane-based TAE who, as part of the QinetiQ team, will provide DSTO with access to specialist engineering machinery. QinetiQ is also providing approximately 40 people to deliver an on-site engineering capability in Melbourne.
QinetiQ has a long established presence at DSTO Melbourne providing aircraft structural integrity services.
Mike Kalms, Chief Executive Officer for QinetiQ Pty. Ltd. said: “This service enhances our close and long standing relationship with DSTO. We will invest in the continuous improvement of our people and facilities as part of this contract to ensure that the service continues to meet with DSTO’s ongoing requirements.”
Damien Richards, Manager TAE Gas Turbines Pty Ltd, added: ”We are delighted to be part of the QinetiQ Australia team, a company with similar values for engineering excellence and a service delivery to clients.”
