Modern fast jet platforms are factory-fitted with a range of sensors which feed data to the pilot, such as radar, electronic surveillance, electro-optic – for example, thermal & infra-red, cooperative and non-cooperative identification (modes 1 to 5 IFF), and weapons aiming.

The on-board mission system also manages tactical data link operations for inter-platform communications. The mission system is adaptable and can be tailored for mission and national need.

The critical difference between the as-installed and mission-modified mission system is the timeliness and clarity with which data is presented to the pilot to support his decision to engage a target in accordance with Rules of Engagement (ROE).
