Networked Cueing System (POINTER™) - Maritime

QinetiQ’s proprietary POINTER™ system helps the naval community counter threats from Fast In-Shore Attack Craft (FIAC) by providing the link between distributed ISTAR assets, commanders and those who deliver weapon effects.

POINTER Maritime

Taking live feeds from any sensor that can provide a point of interest (POI) or track, POINTER plots these on a command and control management application in the command centre. It then either automatically or with command input transmits this information directly to the POINTER viewer on or near the crew-served weapon of those operators who will respond.

QinetiQ’s POINTER is the vital link between distributed sensors, commanders and those who deliver weapon effects – closing the ‘air gap’ between command and control (C2) and situational awareness (SA).

When applied in the maritime domain, POINTER significantly reduces the risk to naval platforms on operations by addressing the FIAC threat in littoral waters. Our Through-Life Command Information Systems Services team is carrying out research for the UK MOD into the defence of the UK Royal Navy fleet against the emerging threat presented by small boats.
