QinetiQ supports Paralympian on his road to South Korea
14/11/2017
As a part of our sponsorship of UK Armed Forces Winter Sports and our commitment to the Military Covenant, we have been active in providing support to the Armed Forces Para Snowsport Team for a number of years. Led by Bert Appleton, one of our Senior Business Development Managers and a former Olympic coach himself, we have delivered engineering services, provided access to facilities and mentored athletes.
The Winter Paralympics, to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in March 2018, gives us the fantastic opportunity to develop strong relationships with individual athletes, to provide the extra support required to represent Team GB, qualify, compete and hopefully bring home a medal.
Meet Owen Pick.
Owen is an adaptive snowboarder, a single leg amputee and a total inspiration.
The 23-year-old tragically lost his leg in Afghanistan when he was just 18, but his skills, daredevil spirit and determination have allowed him to very quickly establish himself on the world adaptive snowboard circuit as a real medal contender. With an amazing level of personal drive, commitment and integrity, Owen is an outstanding ambassador for everything we value and aligns perfectly with our own commitment to the Military Covenant.
Owen recently visited our Farnborough site to meet and chat to some of our team; it was wonderful to welcome him to our offices and hear his incredible story. He's achieved a huge amount in such a short space of time.
Read his full story and follow his journey to the Winter Paralympics..
We'll be posting updates and keeping in touch with Owen as he gets ready for the Winter Paralympics, so keep an eye on our Twitter feed.
Wishing you the best of luck, Owen!
