NCSE Course - Pre-course Information

Whether you are new to Naval Combat Systems or re-joining the domain, the following documents and video are recommended reading and viewing before attending the course.

Below is a link to an extract of the DES Ships Maritime Systems Handbook. It covers ‘What is a Combat System' and ‘The Systems of Systems Approach’. It also includes descriptions of various surface platforms and how a typical ship's company is structured.

The Royal Navy website is also a useful resource; of particular note would be the links to the Surface and Submarine fleets.

Finally a video has been produced by Fleet Operational Sea Training. It shows how competencies are tested at sea. Of particular note is how they assess Combat System competence.
