Farnborough International Airshow 2022 - Day 5 Roundup

22/07/2022

Well that’s a wrap for Farnborough International Airshow 2022! What a week it’s been, full of collaborative discussions with Industry and Government, insightful roundtables, significant delegate and ministerial visits and, of course, some fantastic flying displays. It’s been great to be back after so long away, and we’re sure all who attended will agree it’s been a productive period for driving forward key topics in the aerospace and defence industries.

Today was slightly different to the rest of the week, with the focus being on STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths) and inspiring the next generation. We had visits from lots of cadet, scout and guide groups, interested in becoming future scientists and engineers – so important for the survival and progression of the defence industry and its crucial capabilities and technologies. In our roundup video below, hear from Victoria Doherty, Head of Power Sources, and a number of our Early Careers community, as they describe how they’ve been supporting young people considering careers in science and technology.

We also got the chance to chat to Dan Deguire, one of our robotics experts from the USA, about some of the innovative robots being showcased on our stand. These small but mighty uncrewed vehicles are utilised for a variety of dangerous missions, such as situational awareness, reconnaissance, security, inspection and IED detection. They have hugely important real-world applications and help keep military, first responders and civilians out of harm’s way.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our roundups this week… Until next time!
