Getting the balance right
As a leader in our Integrated Engineering Services team and devoted mother, Jasmine knows a thing or two about getting the balance right.
Jasmine manages a busy team of ten highly-skilled design engineers who work on complex, cutting edge design, and she does this on a flexible work pattern to help balance her family and work commitments.
Jasmine says you should take every opportunity but always remember to keep the balance between home life and work.
“By taking advantage of QinetiQ’s flexible working policy, I can work a nine day fortnight and create the space I need to be a better leader as well as a better mother. Having time to recharge means that when the weekend comes I’m physically and emotionally ready to commit full time to family.”
Prior to joining QinetiQ in January 2016, Jasmine served in the Royal Australian Navy for 20 years, beginning her career in the Navy’s technical trade stream.
In 2001 Jasmine was awarded a scholarship to RMIT to study electrical engineering and after five years of full time study, graduated with first class honors in 2006. She was also the first woman to be awarded the Sir Brian Murray RSL award for outstanding achievement. On her return to the Navy, Jasmine project managed various ship repair projects as an assistant marine engineer aboard HMAS Melbourne before her final posting as the Commissioning Deputy Marine Engineer for the LHD, HMAS Canberra.
Jasmine says that joining QinetiQ has provided her with many opportunities to further her career.
"When deciding to leave the Navy and join Defence Industry, I chose QinetiQ because of the reputation that the company has for supporting its employees.”
Since joining QinetiQ, Jasmine has moved from Senior Consultant to Mechanical Design Team Lead for the Integrated Engineering Services team located on the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group site at Fisherman’s Bend in Melbourne. With her background in both engineering and project management, Jasmine is also currently providing strategic advice on a number of DST Group projects.
On her role as a leader and as a mother, Jasmine says:
“Remember to take joy from the fact that when you pass on knowledge and experience to people around you, you are contributing to that person’s future development.”
