Developing Supplier Relations

As we expand our home markets in the UK, USA and Australia, develop new ones and export our expertise, we’re looking to collaborate with local suppliers to help drive further growth.

Achieving our ambition of ‘becoming the chosen partner’ requires a relentless focus on meeting the needs of our customers all over the world. To achieve this, we are establishing productive partnerships with others – from the largest global companies to small businesses and universities – and aim to be open and professional in our relationships with our supply chain, basing them firmly on mutual respect.

Tender Exercises

We conduct all sourcing events through an online portal and expect all responses to be sent through this. When you are invited to participate in a tendering event, you will receive an email from our team with instructions on what to do next.


QinetiQ utilise the Ariba Network for the transmission of Purchase Orders and receipt of invoices. New suppliers will be invited to join the Ariba Network when the first PO is sent, and should be aware that these will be sent via the Ariba Network and not directly from QinetiQ. Suppliers already on the Ariba Network should advise us of their Ariba Network ID (ANID) on registration. We would also like all suppliers to invoice us via the Ariba Network, and the guide below is to help suppliers when submitting an invoice.

Supplier Assurance

We ensure appropriate and correct due diligence is conducted on all of our suppliers to make certain that we provide a standardised, rigorous, but balanced approach to protect our company and our supply chain.

Supplier assurance process

We perform a number of checks and have screening processes to set up and monitor our suppliers. This allows us to ensure a supplier is fit for purpose and suitable for our organisation.


We use the defence and aerospace industry’s Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR) to manage supplier pre-qualification and annual monitoring of policy compliance. JOSCAR simplifies the process for suppliers to demonstrate compliance by allowing a single profile to be shared across QinetiQ and other defence organisations.

Supplier audits

To ensure suppliers in higher risk areas are meeting the required standards, we may wish to undertake a site based audit. This will be scheduled with you in advance, as appropriate. 


Our Procurement Team manages and monitors suppliers through pre-qualifications, such as JOSCAR and credit referencing agencies. We expect suppliers to keep the required JOSCAR information up-to-date to remain compliant.

Safeguarding the supply chain

We see our supply chain as a critical asset. We continue to develop our approach to risk management in the supply chain across the Group to protect the interests of QinetiQ, as well as our shareholders, customers and the employees of our subcontractors.

Health and Safety 

We are committed to providing a safe, healthy and secure working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and anyone who may be affected by our activities. We all share responsibility for complying with the relevant health and safety laws and regulations, as well as QinetiQ’s own policies on health and safety. Everyone is encouraged to play an active role in ensuring our environment is safe and to report concerns promptly. We expect all our suppliers to adopt a similar approach, ensuring health and safety risks in the supply chain are as low as reasonably practicable.

‘Safe for Life’ is the QinetiQ safety programme, which aims to understand and improve safety culture. We want our people and supply chain, at work and home, to remain safe whilst carrying out their day-to-day activities.

Cyber Security

Threats from cyber criminals and hostile states are on the rise. Our suppliers should be committed to ensuring information is appropriately protected and supported to meet current and future risks. Suppliers should maintain awareness of the changing cyber security landscape to ensure they remain compliant with any updates needed to their policies.

After a supplier has completed the JOSCAR registration and is permitted to handle MOD identifiable data, there may be additional requirements for them to conform to Defence Cyber Protection Partnership (DCPP). This may involve completing Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials plus and other DCPP controls. 

Business ethics

We want to work with suppliers who strive for the highest standard of ethical conduct. Our Supplier Code of Conduct lists our minimum standards; however, we encourage suppliers to take extra measures to build trust and transparency with us, and us with them. This can include:
