Royal International Air Tattoo 2018

11/07/2018

Over the past few months, we have been working hard in the lead-up to the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), which is taking place 13-15 July at RAF Fairford. Run annually by the RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises, RIAT is the world’s largest military air show. This year will be particularly special as we commemorate and celebrate with the international Centenary celebrations of the Royal Air Force, RAF100.

We are pleased to sponsor the Innovation Trail again this year, which takes place on Friday 13 July. Around 6,500 children, ranging from school children, scouts, girl guides and air cadets, as well as the general public, are expected to attend. There will be 12 stands from a variety of aerospace and defence companies, and visitors are invited to go around the trail collecting stamps for their log book after answering a question at each stand. Having collected all 12 stamps, they get their ‘wings’. The Innovation Trail provides a great opportunity for visitors to have exposure to a multitude of defence and aerospace companies, including QinetiQ, and the apprentice and graduate opportunities we offer.

We are also returning this year with our TechnoZone stand, where STEM subjects are brought to life and showcased with exhibits and interactive activities to inspire a future generation. Our TechnoZone stand will demonstrate some examples of our exciting technology and ‘head in a hole’ photo opportunities for those who fancy themselves as the next Tim Peake! Both the Innovation Trail and the TechnoZone are supported by our apprentices and graduates and provide a fantastic example of how we are fulfilling our role as a Year of Engineering partner. This year-long government-led campaign is all about encouraging industry partners to tackle the engineering skills gap and widen the pool of young people who join the profession.

In addition to our STEM activity, the new QinetiQ fleet of ETPS aircraft will be on static display so don’t forget to drop by.

We are really looking forward to RIAT this year - see you there!
