QinetiQ has been investing and improving its range capability to include capability to undertake Space Ranging Services.

QinetiQ – through At Sea Demonstration (ASD)/Formidable Shield 2021 (FSD21) – is proud to have made a significant contribution to the ability of NATO allies to defend itself against future threats. Led by the U.S Sixth Fleet and conducted by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO, At-Sea Demo/Formidable Shield 21 represents the largest live-fire Integrated Air and Missile Defence exercise this year.

The Formidable Shield series of military exercises, first delivered in 2017, demonstrates QinetiQ’s value proposition and are an example of our strategy in action. Under the modernisation of the LTPA, we have continued to invest in new technologies and ways of working to deliver test and evaluation, and training and rehearsal in more cost effective and innovative ways. The UK MOD Hebrides range – operating under LTPA – is the perfect location for these exercises and is one of the largest Test & Evaluation ranges in Europe.

FS21 represents the first time European allies have been able to test combat systems against the highly capable GQM 163A supersonic target and we’re delighted to announce the successful construction of a new Ammunition Processing Building and Launch Pads. This is just one feature of a number of FS21 infrastructure improvements and reiterates the specialisations QinetiQ possesses which can’t be found anywhere else in the UK defence domain. This event marked a major milestone in the scientific effort to integrate allied space sensors into NATO IAMD, comprising rigorous engineering efforts between several countries and major contributions from the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
