Jim Carter, Director General Commercial and Industry, and Avril Joliffe, Director General International, from the National Armaments Director Group, were hosted by Will Blamey, QinetiQ’s UK Defence Chief Executive, at Portsdown Technology Park (PTP), as part of the broader visit by the NATO Industry Advisory Group plenary programme, which is taking place in the UK for the first time this century.

The group were given a tour of the site and briefings by QinetiQ, wider industry, local SMEs and the armed forces, showcasing the capability PTP offers to the breadth of the defence ecosystem, and the wider relevance the site has to NATO.

Discussions focussed on how industry and government can work together to develop, exploit and share technology, knowledge and standards across NATO to drive rapid acquisition, a faster cycle of development, system integration, test and evaluation. Collaborating to get emerging capabilities to the front line more quickly and to increase interoperability.

The NIAG serves as NATO’s principal forum for industrial advice on armaments cooperation, capability development, and defence industrial policy. The visit, held in Portsmouth, a place synonymous with UK maritime power and industrial heritage, runs from 23-25 June 2026.
