Integrating Net Zero in to QinetiQ’s Supply Chain Contracts
In 2023, over three quarters of QinetiQ’s global footprint of total scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, resulted from the goods and services we procured from our suppliers, making our upstream activities our biggest impact.
From April 2024, QinetiQ is introducing a Net-Zero Clause to our UK supplier agreements in order to reduce our Indirect (Scope 3) supply chain emissions, and to encourage our suppliers to also take action to mitigate climate change. This clause aims to inspire suppliers to develop and implement a plan of continuous improvement to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of the goods and services they provide.
By articulating and prioritising it through our terms and conditions, we are creating clarity on what we need from our suppliers to support our Net-Zero goals and Plan. This also supports the publication of the UK Government’s Carbon Reduction Contract Schedule PPN 01/24.
Key to this success is collaboration with our supply chain. Cooperation and disclosure are foundational in our collective endeavour to making our businesses sustainable. This clause encourages our suppliers to work with us to quantify emissions, and to accurately measure and reduce our downstream impacts.
