QinetiQ has over 20 years’ experience of managing research frameworks on behalf of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), bringing together a coherent supply chain of specialist suppliers and academics for the Ministry of Defence to meet specific science and technology needs, undertaking research and development tasks across all technology readiness levels.

Since 2017, QinetiQ has led the Vivace consortia of over 250 organisations (75% small and medium enterprises) to enable the Home Office’s Accelerated Capability environment. Through Vivace, QinetiQ typically manages over 30 innovation commissions from multiple government departments simultaneously, delivering innovation integration at scale using a best athlete approach. Our longstanding relationships with existing suppliers and an inclusive approach to identifying top talent and new suppliers and innovative solutions enables us to harness the very latest thinking across the market to solve specific customer challenges at pace.

This model has recently been adopted by Defence to create the Defence Intelligence Rapid Innovation Capability through our Engineering Delivery Partner contract and the Aurora partnership. This effective and scalable solution to innovation is now available to support other organisations across Defence.
