Life at QinetiQ
We’re dedicated to solving some of the world's most challenging problems, and the ingenuity of our 6,000 employees across the globe is core to our success.
There’s never been a more exciting time to join QinetiQ; with offices in the UK, Canada, America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East, we’re quickly growing into new markets around the world.
Making a difference
At QinetiQ our purpose is to “save lives, protect sovereign interests, deliver where others can’t”. This is why we exist as a company and the reason why we all get out of bed in the morning. It is well aligned with our heritage and the mission-critical markets in which we operate, in the past, now and in the future: defence, security, and critical infrastructure.
We work closely with our local communities, proactively support the Armed Forces and actively promote environmental sustainability and responsibility. Our volunteering programme enables our people to use their professional skills to make a positive difference in our local communities. Globally, we support a number of charities that are important to our people:,
Innovating for our customers’ advantage
Our people’s depth of expertise and their passion for defence and security makes the critical difference for our customers. We constantly encourage people to think and do things differently, to always look for enterprising, agile ways to create real benefit. Collaborating with and learning from our world-renowned experts makes QinetiQ an exceptionally rewarding place to work; where no two days are the same.
How far do you want to go?
We understand that people want diversity from a career, so we’ve created a flexible working environment, where we offer opportunities to work on different projects and give people the freedom to innovate and try new things.
We encourage our people to challenge themselves, realise their full potential and to be proud to deliver outstanding performance for our customers. The QinetiQ Academy provides opportunities for further growth, and our people are encouraged to develop technical skills and complete professional training.
What’s in it for you?
Together our people deliver for our customers, enabling us to grow our company, so it’s important that we collectively share in our success. Through our Rewarding for Performance programme, which includes an All Employee Incentive Scheme, we ensure there is a clear link between the contribution you make and the reward you receive.
Our people have access to a great range of flexible benefits, including childcare vouchers, additional annual leave purchase, Cycle2Work, a health cash plan, discounted private medical insurance, health screening and an excellent Personal Pension Plan. Through Employee Saving, you can take advantage of benefits such as up to 50% discount on meals across a wide range of restaurants, up to 15% off high street stores and 40% off cinema tickets.
Looking after your wellbeing
Our success depends on our people, so looking after their health and wellbeing is really important. We offer advice and support including access to our Employee Assistance Programme, which is open 24-hours, 7-days a week. In addition, at many of our locations we have on-site gym and sports facilities and every winter we offer free flu jabs.
After you have completed three months continuous service, you will be entitled to receive payment for periods of absence during any rolling 12 month period calculated from the first day of absence. We encourage our people to have fun together too. Through Cortex you can join your fellow local new starters. Cortex is a community for our new starters. The Cortex committees arrange a series of events and activities across our sites, all of which are designed to help you build your network and have fun.
Inspiring the next generation
As the founding member of the 5% Club, we are part of a nationwide campaign encouraging UK companies to commit to 5% of their workforce being apprentices and graduates.
We also invest time and money to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities to motivate and inspire the next generation of young scientists and engineers.
